Facing the challenge of fatherhood
January 26th 2008 10:21
Join me in the trials and tribulations of fatherhood. But there's a twist... I'm Deaf with a severe Vision Impairment (Deafblind) which leaves many questions, fears and large hurdles but provides me with tremendous joy.
Are you game to face the challenge?

I would love to share your trials and tribulations of fatherhood. What a wonderful experience awaits you. I grew up with a deaf sister and would love to support you in your exciting journey. I am sure you have lots of fears and concerns, and as I am a mother of two, would be happy to share any insights I can with you.
Best of luck.

You're my hero - what a challenge, but how worthwhile. Have read a few of your posts but wanted to come back and leave a comment on the first one.
Was wondering... how do you do something like this - I mean blogging, not parenthood, though that must have it's share of different experiences - if you can't hear or see? You were born deaf-blind? Can you use sign?
Hope you don't mind the questions, just curious as to how you get around things that I would take for granted.

Thanks for the comment and the kind words.
Looks like I was so eager to write my thoughts out that I've forgotten to give you guys a proper introduction and explain my Deafblindness
I'll post a proper response in a blog post but a quick answer to your question.....
I have about 5% vision in the right eye only. To do blogging I have a magnifier program for my mouse and I also wear a magnifying lense in my glasses. Above and beyond that I have Firefox which lets me easily adjust font sizes to what I need them to be.
